Job Description: Data Journalist Intern

Company Overview:

MDandMe (mdme.ai) builds generative AI technology that allows people to make sense of their health at all steps along their healthcare journey: from a conversational symptom checker when you first feel unwell (see our recent blog post), to a community where you are matched to others with near-identical medical histories, to follow-up conversations where you can have diagnostic reports, lab values, and doctors notes explained in plain language.

Since our soft launch in February 2024, we’ve helped over 50,000 people in all 50 states, 60% of whom are from rural communities, and have over 7000 posts in our community. 10% of our users who were not originally intending to seek medical care report seeking care after using us, including those unaware that their symptoms constitute an emergency.

About the Role:

MDandMe is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Journalist Intern to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to dive into extensive user data and uncover insights that can help our community thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze vast and diverse datasets to reveal trends, insights, and stories, and work with our engineers to generate relevant datasets
• Write detailed, engaging data-driven articles (approx 1 per week), helping our community learn from what works and what doesn't
• Communicate complex data insights in an accessible and intuitive way

Qualifications:

• Background in journalism and data-driven research
• Strong interest in health and technology
• Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and strong writing skills
• Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python is a plus

About the team: AuxHealth dba. MDandMe was incorporated in May 2023 with $2M in pre-seed funding. Members of our founding team led development of the first LLM-powered patient interview system as part of a pre-chatGPT partnership with OpenAI, built AI patient intake tools used by millions of patients, and studied user behavior at Meta and Google. We are advised by leading physicians including the director of the HMS Primary Care Center.
